ETSU Research Corporation and Sync Space Announce “Accelerate Appalachia” to Empower Regional Entrepreneurs
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sync Space is collaborating with East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Research Corporation to launch Accelerate Appalachia
JOHNSON CITY, TN – In an exciting initiative, Sync Space is collaborating with East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Research Corporation to launch Accelerate Appalachia, a comprehensive program to enhance the entrepreneurial landscape in the Appalachian Highlands. This joint initiative will provide entrepreneurs and small business owners in the region with access to invaluable resources, capital, and tailored programs aimed at driving growth and innovation.
Accelerate Appalachia will deliver support through four major programs: a startup accelerator, a micro venture fund, an Intellectual Property Commercialization program with ETSU as part of Launch Tennessee’s Technology Transfer Advancement Consortium, and a robust focused industry mentorship program. These resources are specifically designed to support small businesses, startups, and innovators, offering unique tools to scale their enterprises and contribute to the economic growth of the Appalachian Highlands.
David Golden, CEO of the ETSU Research Corporation, emphasized the program’s long-term vision: “ETSU is committed to fostering innovation that strengthens our region’s economy. With Accelerate Appalachia, we’re creating pathways for local talent to develop and grow businesses right here in the Appalachian Highlands. This partnership is about building sustainable companies that create jobs and attract more opportunities for our community.”
For the past several years, Sync Space and the ETSU Research Corporation have been building a collaborative network throughout the region to bolster entrepreneurial support and resources. More than 30 organizations are already participating in this thriving ecosystem, including academic institutions, local governments, private businesses, and community organizations, all working together to provide a pathway to success for new and existing ventures. This extensive coalition exemplifies the collaborative spirit of the Appalachian Highlands and ensures that entrepreneurs have a solid foundation of support and guidance. “Accelerate Appalachia represents a powerful step forward for our community,” said Heath Guinn, President of Sync Space. “By pooling resources, talent, and expertise from across our region, we’re creating a comprehensive ecosystem that empowers entrepreneurs and innovators to not only grow but thrive. The Appalachian Highlands is a unique and promising region, and we’re honored to be a part of shaping its future.”
In addition, the Center for Innovation has developed the Beta Tech Accelerator. Executive Director, Dave Clark, stated “The program has been designed to guide startups from concept through execution, and will connect companies with mentors, resources, and support networks tailored to the challenges and opportunities of the region.”
Through Catalyst Capital, the regional micro venture fund, Accelerate Appalachia aims to provide early-stage capital to promising startups, helping to overcome one of the most significant barriers for emerging businesses in rural areas.
Launch Tennessee, the state organization overseeing entrepreneurial initiatives across Tennessee, has shown strong support for this regional endeavor. “Accelerate Appalachia is a shining example of what collaboration can achieve,” said Lindsey Cox, CEO of Launch TN. “This initiative not only serves as a catalyst for economic growth but also as a testament to the innovation and resilience of the Appalachian Highlands. We’re thrilled to see Sync Space and ETSU Research Corporation take the lead in empowering entrepreneurs and advancing the entrepreneurial ecosystem in this region.”
Through this partnership, Sync Space and ETSU Research Corporation are committed to fostering an entrepreneurial environment that attracts, supports, and retains talented individuals and businesses. The funding for Accelerate Appalachia programs is nearly $1 million for the current year, with the ultimate goal of transforming the Appalachian Highlands into a hub of innovation and economic opportunity.
